Proper tournament preparation follows a 3-week periodisation program. Each week has a specific focus to ensure you reach peak performance on match day:
- Week 1 — Technical drills to sharpen your strokes, combined with high-intensity physical conditioning to raise your fitness level
- Week 2 — Continued physical conditioning, but with a shift from technical to tactical drills
- Week 3 — Heavy focus on live ball hitting and tennis matchplay to simulate tournament conditions
TAG International Tennis Academy provides a dedicated hitting partner and matchplay program so you can follow this periodisation plan and peak at exactly the right time for your tournament.
Why Live-Ball Hitting Is More Effective Than Basket Drills
Basket feeding drills have their place in developing technique, but they don’t replicate the timing, pace, and decision-making of real tennis. Live-ball hitting with a talented coach forces you to read spin, adjust footwork dynamically, and execute shots under time pressure — exactly what match conditions demand. Players who consistently train with live-ball sessions perform significantly better in competition.
What the Hitting Partner Program Includes
- Cross-court and down-the-line live-ball hitting sessions
- Two-on-one drills for physical and tactical conditioning
- Simulated points from the four main opening situations
- Competitive tennis matchplay with set and match scoring
- Pre-match warm-up on match day if required
World-Class Coaches as Your Hitting Partners
TAG International’s coaches are so highly regarded that world-ranked professionals — including former World No. 1 Simona Halep and Naomi Osaka — have sought them out as hitting partners when visiting Singapore. These sessions are charged at the same rate as regular private lessons but are far more physically demanding — the ideal preparation for competitive junior age-group, ATF, ITF, and professional-level tournaments.
Hitting Partner vs Sparring Partner vs Coach
A hitting partner rallies at competitive pace simulating match conditions. A sparring partner plays full competitive matches. A coach feeds, drills, corrects technique, and guides tactical development. TAG’s coaches uniquely combine all three roles in every session.
Singapore Open Champions at TAG International
TAG has produced multiple Singapore Open champions including Tan Xu Teng, Rocky Paglalunan, Bo Alburo, Israel Abarquez, Peter Egos, Dave Regencia, and Parekh Pratim. View the full coaching team at our coaches page.
