The Weekday Loophole: Walk-On Tennis Before 5pm

This is the single most useful thing to know about Evans Road, and it is not obvious from the booking system. On weekdays, the tennis courts here may not be booked before 5pm, as they are reserved for the school community. In practice they are usually unused during those hours, and so the public may play on them on a first-come-first-served basis.

What that means for a player is unusual in Singapore: five courts, in a central location a minute from the Botanic Gardens, that you can often simply turn up and use on a weekday morning or afternoon without a booking and without competing for a slot. Almost every other public tennis venue in Singapore is fully booked out through the reservation system at those times.

Two caveats are worth stating plainly. First, first-come-first-served means exactly that, so it is not a guarantee and the school community has priority. There is plentiful car parking at the Tennis Centre, which is rare for a venue this central.
