Tennis and the Rest of the Family in One Trip

Pasir Ris is the ActiveSG tennis venue where the rest of the family has somewhere to go. The courts are part of Pasir Ris Sports Centre, so a swim or a gym session can run in parallel with a lesson. Further along the road, Downtown East and Wild Wild Wet turn a one-hour court booking into an afternoon out.

In practice that suits two kinds of booking. The first is a junior lesson where a parent uses the hour for the pool or the shops instead of sitting courtside. The second is a weekend trip east, where tennis is the reason to set out and everything else is what happens afterwards. Neither is true of most of the other ActiveSG tennis venues, which sit in sport complexes with little around them.

Private Tennis Lessons at Pasir Ris Tennis Centre

TAG International Tennis Academy coaches conduct private tennis lessons for kids and adults at the Pasir Ris Tennis Centre. The private tennis lesson price is between $115/hr to $135/hr. You may find TAG International Tennis Academy’s roster of private tennis coaches who are able to conduct private tennis lessons at these courts.

Because the venue has only two courts, regular lesson slots at Pasir Ris are limited and tend to be held by players who already train here. If you are planning a weekly lesson, it is worth asking about slot availability before you commit to a term rather than after. To book a session, contact TAG International Tennis Academy at +65 9029 8400, or get in touch here for more information about tennis lessons in Singapore.

Who You Will Be Learning From

TAG International Tennis Academy was founded by Coach XT (Tan Xu Teng), who reached a career-high ITF Men’s 35+ Tour world ranking of #56 and was Singapore’s top-ranked men’s doubles player in August 2018. He is a PTR Full Professional for elite juniors, holds an AustralAsian Academy of Tennis Coaches Level 2 coaching certificate, is registered on the National Registry of Coaches through CoachSG, and was the first Senior Coach of the ActiveSG Tennis Academy. Full credentials are published on his own profile site, coachxt.sg.

The academy’s highest-ranked player-coach is Coach Bo Alburo, the ITF Men’s 35+ World #2 singles player, who coaches juniors from age 6 to 18 alongside adult private and high-performance sessions. His profile site is tagcoachboalburo.com.

Through the TAG x Sanwa X partnership, players in Singapore also have a route to the Sanwa X coaching staff, including Coach Wataru Ochi, who has 25+ years of coaching experience including ATP and WTA professionals, and Coach Kento Takeuchi, a former ATP professional with a career-high singles ranking of ATP World #378.

Only Two Outdoor Courts: Your East-Side Backup Plan

Two outdoor courts is the practical limit of this venue. They are well maintained, well lit and are very popular and heavily booked, so users are advised to book two weeks in advance when the tennis court booking window opens. Rain is the other constraint, because there is no cover at Pasir Ris.

The east of Singapore is unusual in having two indoor alternatives within a short drive, which is worth knowing before you write off a session:

If you play or coach regularly in the east, keeping one of these as a standing fallback is more reliable than hoping the two Pasir Ris courts are free.

Parking, Booking and What to Bring

Car parking is easily accessible at the sports centre. Tennis balls are not provided, so you will need to bring your own. The water fountain is outside the tennis courts, so you are advised to bring your own water bottle. Nice male and female washrooms are available just outside the courts.

Pickleball Near Pasir Ris

If the tennis courts in the east are fully booked, PickleChoo runs dedicated pickleball courts in Singapore, including PickleChoo Arena @ One North. Pickleball uses a smaller court and a slower ball, which makes it an easy first racquet sport for younger children and a lower-impact option for adults who want a game without the running.
