Private Tennis Lessons FAQ

What are the benefits of private 1-to-1 tennis lessons?

Private lessons give you a coach’s full attention, so every minute is tailored to your technique, goals and pace. You’ll typically progress faster than in a group because feedback is immediate and personalised. They’re ideal if you want focused improvement, flexible scheduling, or simply prefer learning one-on-one.

How much do private lessons cost?

Private 1-to-1 lessons start from around S$120–160 per hour, depending on whether you play indoors or outdoors and the size of your package. Larger packages generally work out better value per session. WhatsApp us and we’ll recommend the most cost-effective option for your goals.

Are private lessons suitable for complete beginners?

Yes. Private coaching is one of the best ways for beginners to build solid fundamentals quickly, because the coach can correct technique from the very first swing. It’s also great for nervous starters who’d rather learn without an audience. We tailor the pace entirely to you.

Do I need my own racquet, and what should I bring?

We can lend you a racquet for your trial and early private lessons, so there’s no need to buy first. Bring comfortable sportswear, proper court shoes with good grip, a water bottle and a towel — plus a cap and sunscreen for outdoor sessions in Singapore’s heat. We supply the balls.

What happens to my private lesson if it rains?

TAG owns Winchester Tennis Arena, with 4 sheltered indoor courts at Alexandra Park, so your private lesson can proceed rain or shine. For outdoor bookings, we’ll reschedule or move you indoors where possible. Your one-on-one time isn’t lost to the weather.

How long is a private lesson and how often should I book?

Private lessons usually run one hour, which balances focused work with stamina. Once a week is a good baseline, while twice a week speeds up your progress noticeably. We’ll tailor the frequency and package to your schedule and ambitions.

Can I choose my coach and my preferred times?

We’ll match you with a suitable coach from our accredited team and do our best to accommodate your preferred times and venue, including mornings, evenings and weekends. If you have a specific coach or schedule in mind, just let us know when booking. Flexibility is one of the big advantages of private coaching.

Who are the coaches, and are they certified?

Our 11 coaches are full-time, accredited ex-pros certified by the ITF, LTA and STA — not freelancers. Founder Coach XT (Tan Xu Teng) is an ITF World #56-ranked, PTR-certified coach, and the whole team coaches to that standard. With over 10,000 students taught since we began coaching in 2001, we know how to get results.

Where can I have private lessons?

Island-wide. Our indoor home base is Winchester Tennis Arena at Alexandra Park, and we also coach at TAG @ One-North, Chinese Swimming Club, NUSS @ Kent Ridge, SJI International, Nanyang Girls’ High, Eunos/Ubi Techpark and many condominium courts. If your condo has a court, we can usually come to you.

Can I book private lessons for my child?

Yes — private coaching is excellent for children who want focused, fast-tracked development or extra attention on specific skills. Our coaches are experienced with young players and adapt each session to your child’s age and level. Just let us know your child’s details when booking.

Can I share a private lesson with a partner or family member?

Yes, semi-private sessions (two players with one coach) are a popular middle ground between private and group coaching. You get much of the personal attention of a private lesson while sharing the cost. WhatsApp us and we’ll arrange a suitable rate and slot.

How do I book a private lesson or trial?

WhatsApp us at +65 9029 8400 with your level, preferred area and availability, and we’ll arrange your coach and court. You can also email contactus@tagtennis.org. Many students start with a single trial lesson before choosing a package.
