Choosing a tennis academy in Singapore is a different decision from booking a weekly lesson. An academy is a long-term development environment: a structured pathway, a team of coaches working to one methodology, regular competition, and a track record of producing players. TAG International Tennis Academy has been that environment since 2001 — more than 10,000 students coached, national champions produced year after year, and alumni who have represented Singapore at the SEA Games, Davis Cup and Billie Jean King Cup (formerly Fed Cup).
What Makes a True Tennis Academy (vs. Just Lessons)?
Plenty of coaches in Singapore offer good lessons. An academy offers a system. At TAG that means: a defined age-and-stage curriculum, so every session builds on the last; coaches who train under one development philosophy, so a player can move between coaches and squads without starting over; regular internal match play and a tournament calendar; and progress tracking that parents can actually see. If you simply want a weekly hit, our tennis lessons in Singapore page covers every format. This page is about the academy pathway.
The TAG Junior Development Pathway
Ages 3–5: Pee Wee Foundations
Movement, coordination and racquet familiarity through games. The goal at this stage is simple: a child who loves being on court. See our partner guide to toddler and preschool tennis in Singapore.
Ages 6–12: Junior Group Programmes
Age-banded group training builds technique, rallying and first competition experience. Our kids tennis lessons run at Winchester Tennis Arena, Chinese Swimming Club and condominiums island-wide, with school-holiday tennis camps in March, June, September and December.
Ages 10–17: Competitive Squads & Tournament Training
Players with competitive goals move into squad training combined with private coaching — tactical development, physical conditioning and a structured tournament schedule. Read the competitive junior tennis pathway guide for how juniors progress from first tournament to national ranking.
DSA and School Tennis
Many TAG families train with Direct School Admission in mind. Coach XT has been Head Coach at Nanyang Girls’ High School and Hwa Chong Junior College since 2018, and the academy prepares juniors for DSA trials each year — see the DSA tennis Singapore guide for how the pathway works.
Coached by World-Ranked Players
The depth of the coaching bench is what separates a tennis academy Singapore parents can trust for the long term. TAG’s roster includes Coach XT (Tan Xu Teng) — founder, ITF Men’s 35+ World #56, PTR Full Professional and first Senior Coach of the ActiveSG Tennis Academy — and Coach Bo Alburo, ITF Men’s 35+ World #2 and nine-time Singapore Open champion. Every coach is certified (ITF, PTR or equivalent) and an active competitive player. Meet the full team on our tennis coach Singapore guide — or, for elite 1-to-1 development, see our private tennis coach Singapore page.
Results That Are Public Record
TAG juniors have reached #1 national rankings across age groups — U10, U12, U14, U16 and U18 — and academy alumni have represented Singapore at the SEA Games, Davis Cup, Billie Jean King Cup and World Junior Tennis Championships. Browse the full list on our achievements page. TAG coaches themselves hold STA A Division singles and doubles titles and Singapore Open championships — they compete at the level they teach.
Academy Facilities
- Winchester Tennis Arena, Alexandra — Singapore’s first indoor tennis venue: 4 fully sheltered courts, so academy training never stops for rain
- TAG @ One-North, Buona Vista — premium outdoor courts, also home to our pickleball partner PickleChoo
- Club programmes at the Chinese Swimming Club, Tanglin Club, SAFRA, HomeTeamNS, Warren Golf & Country Club and more
One Academy, A Regional Network
TAG is the anchor of a wider coaching ecosystem. Our partner academy Sanwa X Tennis Academy brings Japanese professional coaching to Singapore, including Coach Kento Takeuchi (former ATP #378, All Japan Champion) and Coach Wataru Ochi. Adults and families can also pick up pickleball at PickleChoo Arena. Whatever direction a player’s development takes, there is a pathway inside the network.
Frequently Asked Questions
What age can my child join the academy?
From age 3, via the Pee Wee programme. Most juniors enter group programmes between 5 and 10, and competitive squads from around age 9–10 depending on readiness.
Do you only coach juniors?
No — the academy runs adult programmes, ladies competitive team training and corporate clinics alongside the junior pathway.
How is TAG different from other tennis academies in Singapore?
Three things: longevity (established 2001, 10,000+ students), verifiable coaching credentials (world-ranked coaches who publish their results), and a documented record of producing national #1 juniors and internationals. We encourage parents to compare academies on exactly these criteria.
How many sessions per week does a competitive junior need?
As a rule of thumb, weekly training hours should roughly match the child’s age, up to 18. Most competitive TAG juniors combine 2–3 squad sessions with a private lesson each week.
Visit the Academy
The best way to evaluate a tennis academy is to watch a session and speak with the coaches. Contact TAG International to arrange a visit to Winchester Tennis Arena or a trial session at the venue nearest you.
