Winchester Tennis Arena is TAG International’s flagship indoor tennis facility in Singapore, located at Alexandra Park. Its four fully sheltered courts were built in 2013 by TAG founder Coach XT, working with Singapore state agencies. At the time, the only indoor tennis courts in the country sat behind private membership at the Singapore Island Country Club, Keppel Club and the Four Seasons Hotel — so Winchester opened up year-round, all-weather tennis to players who were not members of a private club.

Thirteen years on, the arena is TAG International’s base of operations for a significant portion of its coaching programmes, and home to several clubs. The courts are suitable for players from complete beginners to competitive-level adults and juniors, with proper lighting for evening sessions.

Why an indoor court matters in Singapore

In a tropical climate, the two things that most often derail a training plan are rain and heat. Singapore averages rain on roughly half the days of the year, and an afternoon thunderstorm can wipe out a lesson booked weeks earlier. Outdoor court surfaces also stay unplayable for a while after the rain stops, so a ten-minute shower can cost an hour of court time.

A sheltered court removes both problems. Lessons start on time, the week’s plan survives contact with the weather, and juniors working toward tournaments keep their training block intact instead of losing a session every fortnight. It also takes direct sun off the court, which matters for seniors, for young children, and for anyone training through the middle of the day.
